History

Trust for Community Development (TFCD) is a registered charitable, educational, and social welfare organization established in 1992 with the vision of empowering educationally and economically disadvantaged communities, particularly in the rural areas of West Bengal. Recognizing the urgent need for quality education, healthcare, social welfare, and community development among marginalized populations, a group of dedicated social workers came together to establish the Trust.

To provide the organization with a legal identity and strengthen its charitable activities, the Trust was formally registered in 1995 under the Indian Charitable and Religious Trust Act, 1920, bearing Registration No. IV-747 of 1995.

Since its inception, TFCD has remained a non-political, non-profit voluntary organization committed to promoting education, healthcare, women and child development, rural upliftment, vocational training, disaster relief, and communal harmony. While the Trust initially focused its activities in Rajaramchak village of Gazole Block, Malda District, its vision has always been to serve disadvantaged communities irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or gender.

Over the years, the Trust has established and supported nursery and primary schools, elementary madrasahs, adult education centres, literacy programmes, free medical camps, health awareness campaigns, sports and cultural programmes, and disaster relief initiatives. During the devastating floods in Malda in 1998, the Trust played a significant humanitarian role by rescuing affected families, organizing free medical camps, distributing food, clothing, blankets, tarpaulins, medicines, and other essential relief materials.

TFCD has also promoted women's education, vocational training, healthcare awareness, environmental sanitation, and community participation through seminars, awareness programmes, and capacity-building initiatives. The organization has consistently worked to strengthen communal harmony and social integration by encouraging cooperation among people from different communities.

Today, Trust for Community Development continues its mission of building an educated, healthy, self-reliant, and socially empowered society. The Trust is committed to expanding its educational institutions namely Sayeed mia Memorial Institute,  from primary section to higher secondary, healthcare services, skill development programmes, women's empowerment initiatives, and community welfare projects in collaboration with government agencies, donors, CSR partners, and national and international development organizations.

Through more than three decades of dedicated service, TFCD has earned the confidence of the communities it serves and remains committed to sustainable and inclusive development for future generations.
